Course in historical ribbon braiding

We take a look at ribbons from Hedeby, Birka, Skjoldehamn, Whitehorse and Mammen. As we proceed you will learn where the different techniques have been found, and what the ribbons may have been used for. If there is time for it, we can also take a look at how to play with the methods, combine them and change the pattern along the way.

The teacher is Navarana Hertzum-Hendriksen. She first became interested in the braided ribbon 5-6 years ago, when she stumbled upon the craft at a Viking market. From there it picked up speed. She threw herself into finding documented finds and sources on historical ribbons and did her own reconstructions from visual material.

The language of instruction is Danish (English as needed). The course lasts for 3 hours. Limited seats!

The course takes place in Tórshavn. Materials are included in the price. We offer refreshments and Viking cookies. In addition, you get a day pass to the Viking market, which is in the plantation in the days 1st to 3rd of July 2022.
