Table weaving was used in ancient times. In Denmark tablets from 100-300 AD have been found. The ribbon was often used as a starter in a bigger loom for clothing textiles. From the Viking age very pretty ribbons have been found from rich graves with threads made from gold, silver and silk.
The teacher is Joana Bjarnastein. She is educated from Kerteminde håndarbejdsseminarium (hand crafts school) specializing in weaving. The last 20 years she has worked with weaving as a crafts woman in different workshops and as a teacher, amongst other at evening classes.
The course is in Faroese (Scandinavian and English as needed) and lasts for 3 hours.
The course takes place in Tórshavn. Included in the price are materials. Bring your own belt. We offer something to drink and a Viking cookie. In addition, you get a day ticket to the Viking market, which is in the plantation in the days 1st to 3rd of July 2022.
