From the preface of Det musiske menneske
English translation named The Muse within (1992)
We all need the musical man. No one is lost to the music without at the same time losing something deep in their own humanity.
Therefore, I think it’s important to try to understand the musical man better, understand a little more about its origin, its distinctive character and its myriad of forms of unfolding.
The field is breakthrough large, and therefore usually taboo in a specialist tradition as the western one.
It is obviously about all life development and play, children and children’s culture, creative people, and music, but also about pedagogy and school, social development and politics. For the musical man belongs in a form of ecological holistic thinking. If we don’t try to see in larger entities, not just across disciplines and genres, but also across cultures and age groups, science and poetry, we lose sight of the musical man.
