Souwester in LeirvíkBook now
An authentic and raw glimpses of the faroese modern and traditional fishing history through art, old rowboats, fishing tools, local stories and fresh fish.
The tour starts down at the martime harbour of Leirvík where we’ll visit the local fish-factory, Norðfra. We’ll taste, touch and embrace some of the finest seafood which the Faroes has to offer. A deilightful fish soup and some kodak moments with a stylish souwester.
Afterwards we’ll visit the local Boat and Art Museum, which is located in an old drying house. The Art Museum offers an unique collection of paintings by the international recognized impressionist, Jóannis Kristiansen, and a lovely view over the martime harbour.
The Boat Museum harbours several traditional rowing boats which all have their own personal and fascinating story. We’ll revisit an seemingly forgotten age, where the sinker, handline, longline, fishingbox, fishinghook and oar were a necessity for surviving on the islands.
If you’re not finished, visit Lávusarhús on our own; a small shop in Leirvík which showcases the talent of local artisans. Grab a cup of coffee and waffle while you’re at it.
An different and dry afternoon where tradition meets modernity and all of your sense will be put to use.
