This festive evening will crown the year's best Faroese short film with Birgir Kruse steering the show as host. After the event at The Nordic House, Filmshúsið invites all ticket holders to an exclusive afterparty at Hvonn downtown, where DJ Beinta Haraldsen will set the dance floor on fire!
The nominees are:
Magni Elias Vang: “Álvara og gaman”
Rannvá Káradóttir og Marianna Mørkøre: “EINMIN”
Julia í Kálvalíð: “Faðir mín Faðir”
Sølvi Næs Hoydal: “Glataður tími”
Maria Winther Olsen: “Halt um meg”
Trygvi Danielsen: “Kindregg”
Høgni Egholm Magnussen og Mathias Dimon Næs: “Kvøldvaktin”
The participants are competing for the Geytin Award of 40,000 DKK, sponsored by Runavík Municipality, and the Audience Award of 30,000 DKK, sponsored by Tórshavn Municipality.
The competition is expected to be fierce, as Filmshúsið director Marjun Niclasen explains:
"Last year, we saw several filmmakers who are studying at international film schools participate. The growing number of young people pursuing film education is a significant step forward for Faroese film production, and it's no surprise that this is also raising the standard of short films. We hope this won’t deter self-taught natural talents from entering the competition, but it’s safe to expect tough competition once again."
The jury, tasked with the challenging job of selecting the winner of the short film competition, comprises representatives from Filmshúsið, Kringvarp Føroya, Føroysk Filmsfólk, Filmsfelagið, and Klippfisk, along with an international film representative.
Geytin aims to inspire, strengthen, and encourage interest in Faroese short film art. It celebrates Faroese film production and provides an opportunity for both filmmakers and film enthusiasts to come together. The competition is a collaboration between Filmshúsið and The Nordic House.
