Jens Søndergaard Kvintett (DK, FO, IS)

Jens Christian Søndergård (b. February 4, 1945, in Copenhagen) is a Danish saxophonist, primarily playing alto saxophone. Søndergård was a member of Leonardo Pedersen’s Jazzkapel from 1967-1978, and since 1978, he has been a part of Swingstyrke 7 and the Etta Cameron Group. In 1981, he founded the Søndergård Quartet with members including Marilyn Mazur. The quartet has performed with Peter Poulsen at various jazz and poetry events. He has also collaborated with American saxophonists such as Lee Konitz and Benny Golson. Søndergård played in the band White Label from Odense from 1980 to 1983 and in 1985 in the group Unit 4, featuring pianist Jørgen Emborg, among others.
Jens Søndergård has played, and continues to play, in various big bands. In 2007, he formed the group Art of Pepper, which recorded the live album "More Pepper." In 2009, he recorded a duo album with American pianist Kenny Werner, which won the Danish Jazz Record of the Year 2009. The Jens Søndergård Quintet will also perform new works by Rógvi á Rógvu.
