Play Boys & ASA
Saturday 8th February at Tøting, Syðrugøta
Start 20.30
PLAY BOYS
Play Boys was formed in 1976 by a group of young musicians from the Varða area. They started playing together out of passion, inspired by the vibrant live music scene and by family, friends, and acquaintances who either played music themselves or deeply appreciated it.
The band was most active in the 1980s, performing at dances and concerts, mainly in the capital. Over the years, its members have played together and individually in countless bands, projects, and recordings, both locally and internationally.
Play Boys are known for their energetic and groovy sound, blending funk, soul, jazz, and blues. Their repertoire includes music by artists such as Al Jarreau, Stevie Wonder, Donald Fagen, Natalie Cole, George Benson, and many more.
They are a lively group of musicians who aren’t afraid to improvise or tell a good story—whether with or without their instruments.
At the heart of the band is the exceptional vocalist James Olsen, renowned for his soulful and dynamic singing. A charismatic performer, he has been with the band from the beginning as a singer and a powerhouse drummer known for his distinctive and effortlessly groovy playing.
PLAY BOYS Line-up:
James Olsen – Vocals
Leivur Thomsen – Guitar
Hans Petur í Brekkunum – Saxophone
Arnold Ludvig – Bass
Rógvi á Rógvu – Drums
ASA
Bold, heartfelt, and brutally honest—this is ASA. Faroese-Icelandic singer Ása Helena Brynjarsdóttir captivates audiences with her expressive voice and direct lyrics, inviting listeners into her emotional world. She navigates through taboo topics and touches on raw, intimate themes such as love, alcoholism, and the complexities of adulthood.
Though ASA is a relatively new name in the Faroese music scene, she has been an active singer and songwriter for years. She performed at Húsagongd in Sandavágur (2023) and competed in Sement (2024), where she secured third place and was selected to perform at the SPOT Festival in Denmark.
Let me know if you'd like any refinements! 😊
