A beautiful, easy and tranquil walk, lasting about 3 hours, when walking continuously

The village path between Hvalvík and Kvívík is fascinating. You pass the hydropower dams at Mýranar, east of Vestmanna. As you walk, you will notice larger and smaller dams that have been constructed to collect rainwater in this large area. You will also pass a water tunnel.

If you start to walk in Hvalvík follow the new path along the river Myllá, which runs north of the Mission House in Hvalvík. Here you will find a gate. Having passed through the gate, take a left toward the hay barn, from which you switch back north of the river Myllá (the right side). When you have come up the first rise, 150 metres above sea level, you will see the first cairns. From here you walk along Myllá, by the gorge Hvalvíksgjógv. Cairns will lead you all the way to Kvívík.

If you start in Kvívík, the walk commences at the large parking lot on the main road above the village. From here you walk 70 metres eastward, where you will find the path to the first gate. From there, cairns will lead you the rest of the way.

The walk can be taken in either direction—weather conditions and mode of transportation deciding which direction to take. Though, some think the walk from Hvalvík is more beautiful.
