Vatnsoyrar

  • The village of Vatnsoyrar

Vatnsoyrar is a little village on the island of Vágar, next to the Lake Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn.

The first settlers in the little village of Vatnsoyrar arrived in 1921 making it one of the youngest settlements on the Faroe Islands. It is the only village in the archipelago that is not on the coast, but instead it is next to Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn, the largest lake on the Faroe Islands.

Despite being one of the youngest settlements, Vatnsoyrar has alot of history from World War 2, and its also where you will find alot of the remains of the British invasions.
